2011年4月15日下午兩點，美國紐約市立大學馮錫武教授在云塘校區圖書館報告廳B-102為我校師生帶來了“長沙理工大學外國語言文學海外名家系列講壇”的第三場講座。馮錫武教授講座的題目是“Impacts of Traditional Values and Cultural Pluralism on American Education”。此次講座由外國語學院覃先美教授主持，外國語學院的部分教師、研究生、本科生等近兩百人參加了講座。
馮教授以他對長沙理工大學參觀的感受開始了他的講座，把理工大學描述為“宏偉的校園”，把學生描述為“生機勃勃的學生”，幽默輕松的講話立即獲得了全場師生的熱烈掌聲。馮教授的講座分為五個部分：Introduction；Reflections of Traditional American Values and Beliefs in Education；Impacts of Cultural Pluralism on Education；Issues and Challenges and Conclusion。
首先，馮教授以對《虎媽媽的戰歌》（“Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother" by Amy Chua；Yale Law School Professor；Penguin Press ? 2011）的介紹引導出了本次講座的主題。
在Reflections of Traditional American Values and Beliefs in Education部分，馮教授詳細地介紹了Traditional American Values and Beliefs和Reflections of Basic Values in Education。在這個部分中，Individual Freedom，Equality of Opportunity,Material Wealth,The Concept of Education as a Ladder等關鍵詞成為了馮教授重點介紹的內容。
在Impacts of Cultural Pluralism on Education部分，馮教授通過The Impacts of Cultural Pluralism，Context of Cultural Pluralism等眾多的關鍵詞，以翔實的數據和實例分析了文化多元主義對美國教育的影響。
在最后一部分，馮教授從Increasing Responsibilities and Limited Budge，Some School-Related Facts，School Safety和The Standards Movement四個方面，通過大量數據和幽默的話語介紹和解釋了美國教育當前面臨的問題和挑戰。
最后，馮教授以“A Poem On Learning Disabilities By Anna Gillingham”結束了精彩的講座。
